Harvey Fills Big Need for Clemson

When Clemson landed a commitment from Santana Harvey on Friday during day one of the big official visit weekend, one big need for the 2027 class was filled.

While the Tigers have had some struggles in recent years landing highly-touted ends from the high school ranks, the fortunes have turned with the addition of Harvey. At least temporarily. He is currently the second-highest-rated player in the 2027 class for Clemson.

Harvey is the eighth player to commit since the beginning of last week, and the 15th overall. However, he is the first edge rusher to join the class.

“I have been seeing a lot of the guys who have been committing,” Harvey told TCI last week. “They are hot right now, going into the right time. To get hot before the big weekend, which I can not wait for, is a good sign. I feel like Clemson could possibly get back to those natty ways very soon. That trajectory is going up.”

The Tigers didn’t land a single blue-chip end in the 2026 class, signing two developmental prospects with high upside in JR Hardrick and Michael Foster, both three-star talents. Not to knock either of those two guys, but Harvey is a different caliber of player. He is a high four-star talent. While he excels at getting after the quarterback, he’s also capable of defending the run. He might need a little polishing, but he has the talent to see the field sooner rather than later.

During his high school career at Lakeland (FL), Harvey has accounted for 20 sacks and 36.5 tackles for loss. At 6-foot-4, he has the desired length. He is also quick and has that twitch you like to see in a pass rusher.

With Will Heldt and Jahiem Lawson both entering their final seasons, restocking the cupboard at end was a must, and securing Harvey’s commitment was a good first step for the current class. Having said that, the staff still needs to add another player or two at the position.

It also goes without saying that landing the commitment is just one part of the process these days. You have to hold on to it until signing day. Per 247, there were more than 1,000 decommitments in the 2026 recruiting cycle, so no school is immune to those in this era. Assuming he sticks, though, Harvey is one of the biggest gets to date for the Tigers’ current recruiting class.
