Swinney Camp Notebook: Day 1 Afternoon Session

CLEMSON — Once the afternoon session of Dabo Swinney’s high school camp kicked off on Tuesday, some of the bigger names that worked out during the morning session had already made their way out of the facility.

Four-star wideout Jordan Gorham (IMG) was back in action and was one of the better receivers I laid eyes on today in either session. He is long and rangy and knows how to go up and high point the ball.

Gorham’s younger brother, Jeremiah, was also working out with the defensive ends. He is only 13-years old, but another example of how family is emphasized at Clemson. One person described the youngster as a “mean” defensive end.

After working out at wide receiver during the morning, four-star Jaden Jones (Avonworth, PA)worked out at safety during the afternoon. He looked really sharp at both spots, in my opinion.

One 2028 edge rusher that caught my eye this afternoon was Kermit Davis III (Stratford). He certainly looks the part. App State is his only offer to date, with Coastal Carolina and UConn showing interest as well. Will be interesting to see where his stock his after his upcoming junior season.

2027 in-state wideout Nick Gordon (Cheraw) worked out at both sessions. I have always thought he was a bit underrated. He is one of those smaller-bodied receivers, but he has a strong lower half and possesses legit speed. He is extremely shifty and it is obvious he puts a lot of work into his route running. Clemson is likely done at receiver for the 2027 class, but North Carolina and Wake Forest are two Power schools showing interest.

The best tight end I saw today was probably J.C. Wessel (Bolles, FL), who worked out this morning. At 6-foot-6, he is hard to miss. Wessel is considered one of the Top5 players at the position and it is easy to see why. Did not see him back out there this afternoon.

2027 in-state LB Bubba Alexander (River Bluff) worked out at both sessions. Alexander has been camping at Clemson for years and wanted to come back for one final time after injuring a hamstring almost immediately after beginning drills last summer. Samford and Mercer are showing interest this summer.

2028 QB AJ Chung (West Orange, FL) threw for the coaches this afternoon. The 6-foot signal caller has nice touch on his throws. Arkansas, Iowa State, Purdue and Syracuse represent some of his Power-4 offers.

2028 QBs Grayson Clary (Rabun Gap, GA) and Jace Grass (Daniel, SC), who is the son of former assistant Jon Grass, both threw during the morning session.

2029 QB Aun Qizilbash (Sebastian River, FL) is taking part in his fifth camp at Clemson.

2029 OL Reed Scruggs (Leesville, VA), the younger brother of current offensive lineman Carter Scruggs, was back for the afternoon session. Just needs to fill out his 6-foot-5 frame a little bit more, but with him just about to start his sophomore year, there is plenty of time for that.

2029 WR Jacoby Beard (Prince Avenue, GA) was back this afternoon and turned in a really good performance. Beard is the younger brother of former RB target Andrew Beard. He might end up being as highly sought after as his older brother was.
