Top 50 Recruit ‘High’ On Clemson Board

CLEMSON — Domonic Williams has been itching for an opportunity to get out in front of the Clemson coaching staff.

On Tuesday, Williams got that chance, with the four-star defensive back putting on an excellent workout during the morning session of Dabo Swinney’s high school camp.

“Camp is a lot different because you can go out there and showcase your skills,” Williams told The Clemson Insider. “I liked how I got introduced to everybody and how everybody had an eye on me during drills.”

After the morning session wrapped up, Williams and his father were taken on a tour with assistant Mike Houston, who’s playing a big role in this recruitment. However, this was not his first tour. He also got one during his first visit to campus back in the spring.

“I have actually toured the campus before,” Williams said. “It was really for my father. He had never been there before. He was amazed.”

After spending much of the spring unranked, Williams is now slotted inside the Top 50 at Rivals and as the seventh-best corner in the 2028 class.

“It means something but I really just try to stay focused and not worry about the ratings and all that,” he said.

To this point, Clemson has only handed out two offers to players in the 2028 class. While Williams did not leave town with one, the staff is making him feel wanted.

“They said to trust the process and that they have offered only two 2028s so far,” Williams added. “They said I am definitely high up on the board.”

The 6-foot, 185-pounder already has more than a dozen offers, and Williams said Florida, Kentucky, NC State and Wake Forest, which was his very first offer, are some of the other schools standing out early. However, despite not having an offer just yet, there is just something about Clemson he really admires.

“The way they don’t just give out offers,” Williams said. “Some of these schools, they just call and say we are going to offer you without ever seeing you. Their coaches really build a relationship with you. And their facilities are unbelievable.”

And it’s an offer he is really striving to earn.

“It would mean a lot to me, especially with the way they do it,” Williams said. “There are only two offers for 2028s right now and only 78 for the (2027) class. It will be fun building that relationship with them, then getting the offer.”
