CLEMSON — Dabo Swinney’s high school camp is in full swing, with several hundred prospects working out on campus Wednesday morning.
2028 quarterbacks highlighted the morning session of Day 2, and there was a lot of Lone Star State flavor. Clemson is still evaluating options for where the opening offer or offers will go and four-star Trace Hawkins (Calhoun, GA) is one of the options. He showed why with his workout.
Hawkins throws a really nice ball with a tight spiral. No one will claim he has the strongest of arms, but it is more than strong enough. He can make the throws. Hawkins might have turned in the best performance among some other really good players at the position.
He was on campus twice during the spring, most recently for the spring elite day in April.
As a sophomore last season, he threw for 2,442 yards with 24 touchdowns to just three interceptions. He also had three rushing touchdowns. Rivals ranks him No. 257 overall and No. 18 among all quarterbacks in the 2028 class.
-Four-star Carter Ziggleman (Coppell, TX) had a solid morning. He is a big boy, standing 6-foot-4 and weighing more than 220 pounds. As one might imagine, he’s got a big arm.
At least one recruiting service ranks him among the Top 5 quarterbacks in the class. Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Tennessee and Texas Tech are among his more than two dozen offers.
-Three-star Trey Wright (Frisco Lone Star, TX) also had a good day throwing the ball. At least during the window I watched. Wright routinely put the ball on target during multiple drills, putting a nice touch on his throws. He made his first-ever visit to campus during Easter weekend.
Wright was a MaxPreps All-American after throwing for more than 4,000 yards as a sophomore. He was responsible for more than 5,800 total yards. He has more than two dozen offers, including Kentucky, Michigan, Oklahoma, North Carolina, South Carolina and Oregon.
-Three-star Hudson Tomcheck (Southlake Carroll, TX) was another big quarterback to work out. Tomcheck is 6-foot-4 and his accuracy stood out during the short time we watched him throw. Baylor, Houston, TCU and SMU have all offered.
– One under-the-radar quarterback was overly impressive, with 2028 signal-caller Nate Watkins making throws that had several onlookers wondering who he was. His only offer is Bethune-Cookman. More camp performances like the one this morning and that number is going to quickly grow.
-One 2029 signal caller worth filing away for the future might be Sa’mon Ellison-Morgan. He is already 6-foot-3 and only entering his sophomore season. Pitt and Liberty have already offered.
-2028 four-star wideout Zyon Robinson (McEachern, GA) was the most impressive receiver during the morning session. Dressed in all black, he received a lot of individual attention from Tyler Grisham, Lonnie Galloway and even some from Dabo Swinney. Tennessee, Florida State, Georgia Tech, South Carolina and Texas A&M are just a few of his more than a dozen offers. He is currently considered a Top 150 talent overall.
-2028 four-star OL Reece Wilmes worked out Tuesday morning. Wilmes is the younger brother of current freshman OL Braden Wilmes. Indiana, Oregon and Nebraska are some of the schools to have already offered. Having multiple connections to the school, it is only a matter of time before the younger Wilmes has the offer from the Tigers.
-Several players made their way over from South Florence, where current DT Amare Adams won a state title. One of those was his younger brother, 2028 CB Tyler Murray. 2029 DT Zamaury Geathers also worked out, as did 2027 OL Luke Thayer. Thayer visited back in the spring. 2028 DE Davey Green also worked out.
-2027 in-state DB Bradyn Carson (Dorman) was one hand. Carson is the nephew of former Clemson standout Brandon Thomas.
