TN Wideout’s First Time at Clemson ‘Great Experience’

CLEMSON — Karontae’ Cunningham was one of thousands of high school prospects to make his way to Clemson this week for Dabo Swinney’s high school camp.

The 2028 recruit, out of Tyner Academy (TN), made his way to campus with teammate Dion Edwards, who is one of the top safeties in the class. While Edwards has visited in the past, this was Cunningham’s first time at Clemson.

“It was a great experience with great coaching,” Cunningham told The Clemson Insider. “I learned a lot there. Also had fun competing.”

While he is listed as a running back by one of the major recruiting services, the 5-foot-11, 180-pound rising high school junior spent Friday morning working out with Tyler Grisham and the receivers. Cunningham turned in one of the better performances of the morning.

“They gave me some tips on how to start better and break down better,” Cunningham added. “I really appreciated that.”

And he came away with a great first impression of Grisham.

“He is a great coach. Great energy,” Cunningham said. “He teaches you things. Patient. He is a great coach.”

Colorado just recently handed Cunningham his first Power-4 offer. Bowling Green and Mercer have also offered. However, Clemson’s process is much different. The offers go out much slower, with the Tigers having offered just one 2028 receiver to this point.

Cunningham did put himself on the radar of the staff with his workout, and he’s likely to be back for a game in the fall. The matchup with Miami on October 3 is being discussed as a possibility.

The Clemson offer is one he’d like to add, and knowing how selective the Tigers are, that would make it mean that much more.

“It would mean a lot, just knowing how hard it is to get an offer from them,” Cunningham said. “It would mean I am working hard and my skills are starting to show.”
