Clemson Still Exploring QB Options

Dabo Swinney’s high school camp is now officially in the books and as of late Sunday, Clemson had still yet to extend an offer to a quarterback in the 2028 class.

Last summer, the first offer did not go out until the final day of camp, when four-star Peyton Houston secured one after absolutely killing it with his camp performance on that Sunday morning. It took about a month before another quarterback picked up an offer, with four-star signal callers Kharim Hughley and Trent Seaborn both announcing offers on the same day. Hughley wasted no time taking advantage of the opportunity, announcing a commitment about a week later.

However, this summer things are playing out a little differently. From the outside looking in, it appears the staff is being more deliberate with the process. More intentional about evaluating the talent.

Several options rolled through last week, choosing to throw for the staff in an effort to earn one of those hard-to-get offers from the Tigers. However, there was one notable exception, with four-star Kaden Kraft not attending. Last month, after winning MVP of the UA Next camp in Charlotte, Kraft told The Clemson Insider he was planning to camp. He has visited twice in the past, including for the Spring Elite Day in April.

Of the quarterbacks that did work out at some point last week, there were a handful that really stood out. Four-star Titus Huard threw on Friday, and for my money, he looks like the total package. He is 6-foot-6 and has a big arm top go with that big frame. Once the morning session started, Huard was the first person Kevin Kelly watched. And he watched on intently.

Huard is the son of Brock Huard, a former standout quarterback at Washington, so he has the bloodlines. He is considered one of the Top 10 quarterbacks in the class, with Oregon, Texas Tech and Colorado being some of his bigger offers.

Four-star Trey Wright worked out last week and was overly impressive. Wright is close to current commit Kharim Hughley in height, with both looking like they come in at a tick under 6 feet. While he’s certainly not the biggest quarterback in the class, Wright has the arm. He can make all of the throws, and he was extremely accurate with the football during the window I watched. He is also very athletic. Everything he did just looked smooth and effortless.

Oklahoma, Florida State, Oregon, Kentucky, South Carolina, North Carolina, Auburn, Indiana, Purdue, Houston, UCLA and Michigan have all offered within the past month, so Wright’s stock is really starting to rise. He is quickly approaching the 30-offer mark.

Four-star Trace Hawkins also worked out last week. Hawkins has been on Clemson’s radar for quite some time, having visited several times already, including twice during the spring. Once he got rolling during his workout, he was very sharp. The ball just kind of glides out of his hand.

Iowa State, Kentucky and Cincinnati are some of his most recent offers. Florida, Georgia Tech and Indiana are a few of the others to have pulled the trigger.

Four-star Carter Ziggleman is another option who camped last week. At 6-foot-4 and around 220 pounds, Ziggleman has a big arm.

At least one recruiting service ranks him among the Top 5 quarterbacks in the class. Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Tennessee and Texas Tech are among his more than two dozen offers.

Four-star Brady Quinn might be another name worth monitoring. Quinn also worked out for the staff last week. He also visited back in the spring. And no, he is not related to former Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn. The two sharing a name is just a happy coincidence.

Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Ole Miss and South Carolina are just a few of his more than two dozen offers.

While these certainly aren’t all of the options, these are some of the quarterbacks that looked the part during their workouts at camp. And i’m betting at least one of these guys gets that call in the not-so-distant future.
