RJ Hudson announcing a commitment to Clemson last Friday likely means the Tigers are done at linebacker in the 2027 class.
The three-star talent, out of Varina High School (VA), was a late addition to the board, picking up an offer just days after working out at camp the first week of June. After picking up his offer, Hudson scratched plans to give an official visit to Syracuse the weekend of June 12-14 so he could visit Clemson. Less than a week later, he was committed, becoming the third and likely final take at linebacker.
While four-star Sean Fox named the Tigers as one of his three finalists on Monday, don’t expect him to announce for Clemson when he reveals his college destination on Thursday. At one time, both he and Hudson were takes, but Fox has been trending heavily towards Kentucky, with the Wildcats expected to be the choice. Georgia is the other finalist.
Fox picked up his offer after attending the Elite Retreat in March and returned for the big official visit weekend, May 29-31. He visited Kentucky the following weekend, with the Wildcats coming out of that with a lot of momentum. However, a few days later, it appeared he might be Clemson-bound, but that talk quickly fizzled out, with rumors circulating that Kentucky made a substantial increase to his NIL package.
Four-star Roman Igwebuike also picked up an offer from Clemson after attending the Elite Retreat and was also on hand for the big official visit weekend. While the Tigers are one of his five finalists, Igwebuike is expected to announce for Notre Dame on Thursday. He is fresh off an official visit to South Bend. Indiana and Missouri also got officials. He had one more scheduled with Tennessee but those plans were scrapped after the visit to Notre Dame.
With both Fox and Igwebuike both nearing decision dates that look to have them committing elsewhere, and Hudson announcing for Clemson late last week, that might very well put a bow on linebacker recruiting for this cycle.
Four-star Bryce Kish committed back in the spring, while three-star Max Brown announced last summer, and with Hudson now on board, the Tigers have three players at the position on board for the 2027 class. Obviously, plans can change, but as of now, it seems like the Tigers are done at linebacker.
