One of Clemson’s top remaining recruiting targets is pushing back his commitment date.
Four-star safety Seth Williams announced on Saturday that he no longer plans to reveal a college decision on July 3.
“After much prayer and consideration, I have decided to push my commitment date back,” the blue-chip talent posted to social media. “I am incredibly grateful to God for blessing me with the opportunity to be recruited by two amazing programs, and I am so thankful for my family, whose love and support have guided me every step of the way. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey. I am excited for what’s ahead and trust God’s timing.”
Williams did not set a new date, only announcing that he won’t be committing on the originally scheduled date.
The Tigers offered back in March while Williams was on campus for an unofficial visit. Having gotten caught in the moment, he committed on the spot. However, after returning home and with the emotions of the visit having worn off, he quickly realized he’d made a rash decision. He called the coaching staff the very next day to inform them he wasn’t quite ready to commit. It took two weeks for his decommitment to become public news.
Since then, he’s taken a multitude of unofficial visits. Georgia and Clemson are the only two schools to have received official visits. Ohio State and Florida were both originally scheduled to get officials, but Williams ultimately scratched those.
“I got two programs left, and both of the programs are prestigious at what they do,” Williams recently said on the Monday LIVE podcast. “I got Coach Swinney, and he’s been at Clemson for I don’t know how long. He’s been there before me, before I was even born. He is accomplished and well-set in his town. And you got Coach Smart, who is also one of those coaches who have been well-established.”
Clemson already holds commitments from two safeties in the 2027 recruiting class. Three-star Harrison Luke committed back in the fall, while four-star Jarrell Chandler announced in the middle of May.
