Former Clemson Pitcher Signs with Pro Team

A former Clemson baseball player is continuing his professional career with this team.

The Washington Wild Things announced Tuesday they have signed former Clemson standout and former Kansas City Royals farmhand Mack Anglin.

The Wild Things are a team in the Frontier League, which is a pro baseball league with 18 teams in the United States and Canada, founded in 1993. It is an official MLB Partner League.

Per the Wild Things press release on the signing of Anglin to their active roster, Anglin has missed the last two seasons while under contract with the Royals due to injury. The righthanded pitcher was drafted by the Royals in the seventh round of the 2022 MLB Draft with the 205th overall pick and signed for a $231,100 bonus in July 2022.

Anglin spent three seasons at Clemson from 2020-22. His first year, he received a redshirt from the NCAA with the season’s cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A year later, he was an All-ACC Freshman selection, and he finished his career as a Tiger by earning third-team All-ACC honors in 2022. He also won the Stowe Award that year, given to the team’s most valuable pitcher.

Anglin was primarily a weekday starter as a first-year freshman, then moved into the weekend rotation in 2021 and was the Friday starter in 2022. In 139.2 innings pitched over 32 appearances (26 starts) during his three seasons at Clemson, he had an 8-13 record and a 4.64 ERA while allowing 123 hits (.235 opponents’ batting average) and 96 walks with 164 strikeouts.

In the minor leagues in 2023, his lone full pro season, Anglin posted a 2.01 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 27 games (one start) for two affiliates. In those 27 games, 24 of which were with Single-A Columbia, he had 49 strikeouts and 29 walks with 33 hits allowed (.204 opponents’ batting average) in 44.2 innings.

Anglin was originally drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 13th round of the 2021 MLB Draft (No. 383 overall pick) but did not sign.

In high school, he was an All-American by Perfect Game, Ohio Gatorade Player of the Year and three-time all-state selection. He lettered four times in baseball and four times in basketball at Highland High School.
