Several former Clemson targets came off the board on Wednesday, with two of those players choosing the same school.
The biggest name was five-star CB Josh Dobson, who picked up one of Clemson’s opening offers last summer. Dobson visited for the LSU game last season and the Elite Retreat in March, but after that, the two parties quickly trended in opposite directions. LSU was considered the favorite throughout the spring, before Texas A&M started trending heavily. Michigan also made a strong play. However, in the end, the Gamecocks were the choice, with an offer that is rumored to be well into the seven figures.
The Tigers have three corners on board the class and are not expected to take another. The most recent addition came late last week, when four-star Jayden Aparicio-Bailey chose Clemson over Georgia.
Four-star ATH Tae Walden announced a commitment to Oregon on Wednesday. Walden picked up an offer from the Tigers after attending the Elite Retreat in March and was scheduled to take an official visit to Clemson, May 29-31. However, the visit was scratched once the Tigers filled up at the receiver position.
Four-star in-state receiver Trey Wimbley committed late last year, with five-star Jamarin Simmons jumping on board just ahead of the official visit weekend. Three-star Julian Cromartie then announced a verbal pledge during the first day of his official visit.
The Tigers were pursuing Walden as a wideout, but in one interview, he referenced that the Clemson coaching staff was open to him playing both ways. He also plays defensive back for his high school team.
Five-star corner Hayden Stepp also committed to Oregon on Wednesday. Clemson made Stepp’s list of five finalists back in December, but never had much traction after that.
Three-star DL Marquis Evans announced a commitment to Auburn on Wednesday. Evans, who is a former teammate of current freshman QB Brock Bradley, picked up an offer from Clemson in March, but nothing much materialized from there.
The Tigers currently have 24 players committed in the 2027 class, which ranks No. 11 nationally in the 247 Composite Rankings.
