Clemson Hurler In Midst of Dominant Summer

A Clemson hurler has been downright dominant in summer ball.

Hard-throwing right-hander Danny Nelson is currently shining during a summer stint playing in the Cape Cod League.

Nelson is pitching for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox this summer, and through his first four appearances, with two of those being starts, the 6-foot-1 hurler has a minuscule ERA of 0.61. In 14.2 innings pitched, Nelson has allowed just one run, while striking out 18 and issuing just three walks. He is currently sporting an impressive 0.75 WHIP.

In his most recent appearance, Nelson pitched four scoreless, allowing four hits while striking out five and walking none.

Nelson is coming off an overly successful debut season, earning All-ACC freshman honors. He went 2-3 with two saves and an ERA of 3.90. In 30 innings pitched, he had 41 strikeouts to just 10 walks.

With Michael Sharman out of eligibility and Aidan Knaak likely set to start his pro career after the MLB Draft, Clemson will need to replace two weekend starters from last season’s team, and Nelson is a prime candidate to fill one of those slots.
