One of Clemson’s best players on the hardwood last season has a new home.

Just days after a court ruling granted him another year of eligibility, forward RJ Godfrey has signed with Arizona. Rumors of Godfrey heading out west have been circulating for days now.

Godfrey entered the transfer portal back in the spring, hoping to be grandfathered into the NCAA’s new “five-for-five” rule. While that did not happen, on Friday, Judge Charlotte Sweeney of the U.S. District Court of Colorado granted a class-wide preliminary injunction to athletes in the high school class of 2022, which gave them another year of eligibility.

Last season, Godfrey led the Tigers with 12 points and 5.3 rebounds per game en route to taking the program to the NCAA Tournament.

Godfrey, a Suwanee, Ga., native, played his first two collegiate seasons at Clemson before transferring home to Georgia for his junior year. He then returned to the Tigers for his senior season.

As TCI reported on Saturday, Brad Brownell and Clemson had entertained the idea of having Godfrey back, but with questions still lingering about how student-athletes covered under the injunction might impact roster limits, as well as the financial aspect, pulling that off was always going to be challenging for the Tigers.
