Stefon Diggs just recently joined the Washington Commanders on a one-year deal worth up to $12 million. However, it hasn’t taken long for the veteran wide receiver to take notice of a new rookie teammate – Clemson’s Antonio Williams.

Diggs, a four-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro, already likes what he’s seen from Williams, who was selected by the Commanders in the third round of April’s NFL Draft with the No. 71 overall pick.

During a press conference Friday following his first Commanders practice, Diggs praised Williams when reporters asked him about the rookie. Diggs joked that rookies typically have to earn their name recognition from veterans, but he acknowledged Williams’ talent and complimented his game.

“[No.] 14 [Williams] can hoop a little bit,” Diggs said. “Young guys don’t get a name in the beginning — you just call them by their number. But he can hoop a little bit. He’s got some game and hopefully I can be a piece in that process.”

Williams was a two-time All-ACC selection who recorded 2,336 yards and 21 touchdowns on 208 career receptions over 43 games (38 starts) during his Clemson career from 2022-25. He exited Clemson ranked fourth in school history in career receptions and tied with Mike Williams for the fourth-most career touchdown receptions in school history.

In 2025, Williams caught 55 passes for 604 yards and four touchdowns over 10 games. The 5-foot-11, 195-pounder also rushed 13 times for 78 yards and a touchdown, completed a 75-yard touchdown pass and gained 44 yards on four punt returns en route to third-team All-ACC honors.

Diggs, a fifth-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2015, has appeared in 161 career NFL games and amassed 11,504 yards with 74 touchdowns in his career. He has seven 1,000-yard seasons, the most recent of which came in 2025 with the New England Patriots, when he caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns while helping the Patriots make a run to the Super Bowl against the Seattle Seahawks.

In addition to the Vikings and Patriots, Diggs has also spent time with the Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans, and Washington’s addition of Diggs gives quarterback Jayden Daniels another weapon to work with, including No. 1 WR Terry McLaurin, Williams and others.

Diggs isn’t the only one who’s shown love to Williams at the start of his NFL career. Earlier this offseason, Daniels himself said he was excited to work with Williams and have him as a new weapon.

“He’s a smooth kid and very crafty within his routes,” Daniels said. “I’m excited to continue to build that rapport with him.”

Commanders head coach Dan Quinn also raved about Williams back in May when asked how he looked in rookie minicamp.

“I think one thing that you say, right off the bat, like man, this guy has feel,” Quinn said. “He knows when to stop, he knows how to adjust – he just has awareness already as like a big-time receiver. He’s got great hands, great movements to go. He’s off to a hell of a start. … He has definitely been one [of the rookies] that has absolutely jumped out. He’s got real skill about him. So, yeah, we’re really pumped about Antonio.”
