CLEMSON — The first four days of fall camp are in the books at Clemson.

While there is still a long way to go before the Tigers head to Baton Rouge to take on LSU to start the season, some things are starting to become a little clearer for this Clemson team already. However, there are other areas in which we are going to have to wait a little longer for some clarity.

Here are a few things I think I know after four days of practice.

– Granted, some of this is going to depend on the effectiveness of the offensive line, but I really like the makeup of this running back room. At least on paper. Obviously, these players still have to go out and produce, but I think Gideon Davidson is capable of having a big season in Chad Morris’ offense. At 6-foot and more than 200 pounds, Davidson is built for those tough yards between the tackles. However, he’s also got some speed, having run a 10.69 100-meter in high school. He didn’t really get to show that speed off as a freshman, but that should change now that he’s got some experience under his belt.

Having Chris Johnson helping carry the load should only make the rushing attack that much more dangerous. Johnson is one of the fastest players in the nation, and getting him the ball in space should be a big priority during the coming season.

The only question I have is who steps into that third spot? Will David Eziomume be ready to contribute in his third season, or does Jay Haynes bounce back now that he’s fully back?

– Another thing I think I know already is that the left side of the offensive line can be a strength for this team if Elyjah Thurmon can stay healthy. I love the mammoth Brayden Jacobs over at left tackle, and if Thurmon can finally get some fortune on the injury front, those two should make for a very good duo on that side of the line.

– Something else I am pretty confident in is Clemson’s wide receiver room being one of the best in the ACC. There might even be enough talent there to have the deepest room in the league. Bryant Wesco and T.J. Moore should be two of the more explosive pass catchers in the conference, and if Tyler Brown regains his freshman form, watch out. Tristan Smith and Cole Turner provide some quality depth. Add in those three freshmen, who are all burners, and the potential is there for this passing game to be more explosive than it’s been in quite some time.

– Olsen Patt-Henry and Christian Bentancur are both going to be weapons in this offense. Patt-Henry fits the mold of a typical H-back and has already proven himself as a blocker. However, Bentancur looks like a different guy physically. Expect him to take major strides as a blocker this season.

– On the defensive side of the ball, there are definitely some questions, but one thing I feel pretty confident about is JUCO defensive tackle Andy Burburija being able to make an immediate impact. He might be a hair shorter than the other frontline tackles on the roster, but outside of that, he certainly looks the part. Whether he runs out there first or not is yet to be determined, but I believe it is a safe bet that he is a big part of the rotation.

– I feel pretty good about the pass defense being better in the coming season. At safety, Ronan Hanafin has played a lot of football for Clemson and should be able to lean on that experience. Transfers Corey Myrick and Jerome Carter have also played a lot of football. There is a lot more experience in that room now, which should pay dividends moving forward.

Adding Elliot Washington at corner was also a big move to improve the backend of the defense and make the position deeper. Slotting him opposite Ashton Hampton gives the Tigers two dynamic players at cornerback. Add in a more experienced Brendan Strozier, who really started to come on over the second half of last season, and Mike Reed has some pieces to work with at the top of the depth chart.
