Baltimore Ravens standout cornerback and former Clemson star Nate Wiggins was carted off the practice field Tuesday after suffering an apparent left leg or knee injury, according to multiple reports.
The incident occurred an hour into the session during one-on-one drills, according to ESPN’s Jamison Hensley:
The 2024 first-round pick couldn’t put any weight on his left leg when heading into the team facility. He had his arms draped over trainers to go inside.
Wiggins, Baltimore’s top corner, was injured during one-on-one drills with WR Ja’Kobi Lane. He got his feet tangled with Lane while covering a go route and fell hard to the ground.
Trainers looked at the left leg and knee of Wiggins, who was in visible pain. He is the first player to be carted off in this year’s training camp.
Wiggins is undergoing testing to determine the exact diagnosis, and Ravens head coach Jesse Minter said after the practice that while “there’s optimism,” he didn’t know the severity of the injury.
“Nate [went] down during the one-on-one portion. Don’t have a ton of information on that yet. We’ll kind of get it looked at, see where it’s at,” Minter said.
“I think there’s optimism,” Minter added. “But again, like we’ll look at it, and we’ll see where it’s at. You know, it’s one of those plays. I mean, really not much between the two guys in the play. So, whether it was hitting the ground or whatever it was, we’ll see what it looks like.”
Wiggins enjoyed a strong rookie campaign in 2024 after being drafted 30th overall by the Ravens, and he followed it up with an outstanding sophomore season, when he ranked second on the team in interceptions (three) and first in passes defended (14) while ranking fifth on the team with 76 total tackles.
Through his first two NFL seasons, the 6-foot-1, 182-pounder has played in 32 games with 23 starts, while recording 109 total tackles, two tackles for loss, 27 passes defended, four interceptions (including one returned for a touchdown) and one forced fumble.
A 2023 first-team All-ACC selection, Wiggins recorded 50 tackles (three for loss), 24 pass breakups, three interceptions (including two returned for touchdowns), two forced fumbles, a sack and a blocked field goal over 34 games (18 starts) in his career at Clemson from 2021-23.
