Senior defensive tackle Vic Burley was seen wearing a yellow (non-contact) jersey and working off to the side during Clemson’s fourth practice of fall camp on Monday afternoon.

That marked something new since Clemson began camp last Thursday. On Tuesday evening, following Clemson’s practice, head coach Dabo Swinney met with the media and commented on Burley’s injury status.

Swinney confirmed that Burley is dealing with an injury, and Swinney was asked if he thinks it’s a significant setback for Burley.

“I don’t know,” Swinney said. “I don’t think so, but I don’t know.”

Swinney added that Burley is day-to-day, and confirmed that the injury happened after the Tigers started fall camp.

Burley, who has been plagued by various injuries during his Clemson career, enters the 2026 season having recorded 24 tackles (0.5 for loss) and a pass breakup in 267 defensive snaps over 21 career games (one start).

The 6-foot-4, 315-pounder arrived at Clemson as a five-star and top-50 national recruit in the 2023 class, per 247Sports. During his final season at Warner Robins (Ga.) High School, he earned 5A Defensive Player of the Year honors. He was highly productive in 47 career games at the prep level, recording 188 tackles, 55 tackles for loss and 22 sacks for -111 yards. He also had an impressive 138 quarterback hurries.

When Burley enrolled early at Clemson in January 2023, especially with his prospect pedigree, he was expected to make an instant impact. However, things don’t always go according to plan. Injuries hampered Burley during his debut season, and he would ultimately miss the entire campaign. In 2024, it was much of the same, with Burley logging just 92 snaps. Last season, he did appear in all 13 games, totaling 15 tackles (0.5 for loss) and a pass breakup in 175 defensive snaps.

Burley was one of the defensive standouts in Clemson’s spring game at Memorial Stadium in March, when he collected three tackles, 2.5 sacks and a pass breakup.
