A former Clemson guard has found a new home.

Butta Johnson, who spent one season with the Tigers, has signed with ACC foe Virginia Tech. Johnson spent his first three seasons at UAB before spending the 2025-26 season playing for Brad Brownell.

In 35 games last year, including nine starts, Johnson averaged 6.3 points, 2.1 rebounds, and one assist. HIs best game was in the regular-season finale when he scored 15 points in a win over Georgia Tech.

Johnson entered the transfer portal earlier this year and was granted a fifth season of eligibility when Judge Charlotte Sweeney of the U.S. District Court of Colorado granted a class-wide preliminary injunction that required the NCAA to declare eligible all high school class of 2022 athletes who exhausted four seasons of eligibility this spring.

Over the weekend, Dillon Hunter announced he was returning to Clemson for a fifth season. Earlier this summer, a Georgia judge granted a group of college basketball players a preliminary injunction, giving them an extra year of eligibility in college. Each of those players are from the class of 2022, who sued in an attempt to benefit from the NCAA’s newly implemented “5 for 5” rule in effect for 2026, which didn’t cover players from that class. Hunter was one of those players.
