Clemson hosts Miami on October 3, and not only will that game impact the Tigers’ chances of securing a spot in the ACC Championship Game, but it’s also setting up to be a big one on the recruiting front.
Several high-profile recruits have already announced plans to be on hand, and now four-star DE Tyson Williams (Shelby, NC) has been added to the guest list. The 6-foot-4, 240-pounder last visited in 2025 for the Syracuse game.
“Very nice campus,” Williams told The Clemson Insider. “I really liked the personal connection. It was a whole lot different than a lot of places. It was really smooth. A lot smoother than other places.”
Williams already has more than 30 offers, with Miami, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Auburn and SMU some of the schools to pull the trigger over the summer. Georgia, LSU, South Carolina, Florida State, NC State and North Carolina have all offered, as well.
While Clemson has yet to extend one, defensive ends coach Chris Rumph has been recruiting Williams hard. The blue-chip talent says he hears from the Tigers’ assistant almost every day.
“I have never met coach Rumph in real life,” Williams said. “We really just talk a lot of ball. I get a lot of graphics.”
And when Williams gets back to campus in October, he’s hoping he can add Clemson to that already impressive list of offers.
“That would mean a lot to me personally,” Williams said. “Clemson has always been a school that I have liked. I have been watching them since before I was a real recruit.”
As a sophomore, Williams totaled 63 tackles, with 20 of those being tackles for loss. He also finished with four sacks, one forced fumble and a pass breakup. The Rivals Industry Rankings slot him No. 255 overall and No. 26 among all edge rushers in the 2028 class.
Williams says he’s also currently hearing a lot from Notre Dame, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida State, Florida and Miami. He’s also scheduled game-day visits with the Volunteers (October 17) and the Gamecocks (November 7), who were one of his first offers. NC State is also expected to get a visit, with LSU, Miami and Notre Dame other schools that could get added to his fall schedule.
Despite not having an offer yet, Clemson stands out. Mostly because of how the staff goes about handling the process.
“I really like how personal they are,” Williams said. “They do not do things like a lot of other schools. Just that extra attention to detail. Ever since June 15, they have been coming really hard, and I respect that. I mean, I am being recruited by a lot of schools, but they do it a lot different.”
