CLEMSON – Nearly nine months after Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney laid out a courtroom-style indictment of another program tampering with a Tiger player, the saga is still unresolved.

The situation started this past January, when California transfer linebacker Luke Ferrelli joined Swinney and the Tigers out of the portal after a “speed-dating” week of conversations. After the linebacker was in class for a week, according to Swinney, Ferelli was still hearing from Ole MIss head coach Pete Golding, and eventually left his Clemson classes to join the Rebels.

Swinney provided receipts, including several text messages to back his claims, pushing the NCAA to begin an investigation into the issue and dole out consequences. The head coach noted that with the facts, the issue should be dealt with promptly, ahead of the spring and summer months.

“I’m not trying to get anybody fired, but when is enough enough?” Swinney said on Jan. 23. “If we have rules, and tampering is a rule, then there should be a consequence for that. And shame on the adults if we’re not going to hold each other accountable.”

The timeline did not exactly work out to Swinney’s preferences.

Though Clemson is now just days away from opening its season at LSU, where Ole Miss’ former head coach Lane Kiffin now resides, there has still been no resolution on the situation from several months prior – though Ole Miss has since turned around and sued multiple former players for breaching contracts.

In the meantime, Swinney is still waiting – though it is not his primary focus anymore,

“No, I haven’t heard anything,” Swinney said with a laugh. “It was true, he was in school for a week, it did happen. Then he magically ended up at another place. It really doesn’t frustrate me. I am just trying to win a game this weekend. That’s it. Let everybody else worry about all that stuff.”

Though Swinney was standing at the same podium that hosted the now-famous “Law and Order” press conference this winter, his tone was much less fiery when talking about the situation now.

The Tigers are focused on LSU, and while Ferelli may not be joining Clemson on the front lines, junior preseason All-American Sammy Brown, Jeremiah Alexander and Kobe McCloud, among others, will step up to man the primary linebacker roles.

They will get their first chance on Saturday, when Clemson will open its season against LSU at Tiger Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
