CLEMSON — After the thrashing Clemson took at the hands of No. 11 LSU on Saturday night, head coach Dabo Swinney was asked about his quarterback situation for this week’s home opener against Georgia Southern.

Junior Chris Vizzina got the start for Clemson in Baton Rouge and was mostly ineffective, playing until deep into the first half, before freshman Tait Reynolds was inserted. Vizzina would return later in the second half, after Reynolds was also ineffective.

During his weekly Sunday teleconference, Swinney was asked who might start on Saturday against Georgia Southern.

“We will keep that in-house and get back to work,” Swinney said. “Chad (Morris) has a great feel on that.”

Vizzina finished the night 10-of-16 for 83 yards with one interception that was returned for a touchdown. Reynolds went 4-of-6 for just 22 yards.

“Both of them did some good things, did some bad things,” Swinney added. “As I said going into it, we needed to go play and kind of go from there from a competition standpoint. That is kind of where we are.”

Swinney intimated multiple times during the offseason that the competition between the two could extend into the season, and that is exactly what is happening.

“It just so happened we were on the road in Baton Rouge, and it did not go the way we expected,” Swinney said. “Again, you learn from it, reset, and go get better.”
