CLEMSON — Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney spoke to the media following practice on Wednesday, as the Tigers get set to host Georgia Southern in their home opener this Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

Here are some news and notes from Wednesday’s practice report in Clemson.

–Swinney was asked about Dietrick Pennington and his progress at defensive tackle. The graduate, who also plays on the offensive line, got in on six snaps in last week’s loss to LSU and recorded two tackles.

“Just day by day, you know. He’s gotten better, but he’s still a work in progress,” Swinney said.

–On Tuesday, Swinney said fifth-year senior Collin Sadler will play and possibly start on the offensive line against Georgia Southern. Sadler missed last week’s game with an undisclosed injury. Clemson’s head coach was asked about Sadler’s progress this week and where he is at heading into Saturday’s game.

“He’s had a good week,” Swinney said. “He was close last week, but he was kind of ready in an emergency type of situation if we had to have him for some reason, but hadn’t been able to practice in a week or so. He is doing well. He has had a good week.”

–Swinney was asked how Fletcher Cothran and C.J. Kubah-Taylor did at linebacker when he watched the LSU film.

“Nobody put anything good on film. I mean, we gave up 300 yards rushing, so I mean, they’re all part of it,” he said. “I mean, they came in there and got a little bit of playing time, but you know, everybody’s got to get better.”

–Swinney said quarterbacks Christopher Vizzina and Tait Reynolds have been working hard to get the plan down this week. He was asked if the team knows which one of the two will get the start.

“I’m not going to answer any of those things other than just they’ll both play,” the coach said. “The team ain’t worried about it. The team’s just trying to focus on what they got to do. They’re going to play for whoever runs out there and they all know the situation. Guys are competing, but they’ll both play.”

–It was a bad week for the offensive line at LSU. They allowed four sacks and 11 tackles for loss, as they were blow off the ball all night at Tiger Stadium. Swinney was asked on Wednesday if the offensive line has responded in practice this week like he hoped they would.

“We are just trying to get better to go win Week 2. That’s what I’ve seen. Group of guys that are focused on this week,” Swinney said while chuckling.

Clemson hosts Georgia Southern at 7:30 p.m., on Saturday. The game will be televised on the ACCN.
