Clemson got in the win column for the first time this season with a 22-7 victory over Georgia Southern at Memorial Stadium on Saturday night.
Following a nearly two-hour pregame lightning delay, the Tigers (1-1) earned the win over the Eagles (1-1) thanks in large part to kicker Nolan Hauser’s career-high-tying five field goals and a dominant defensive performance, with the unit forcing eight three-and-outs and limiting its opposition to 266 total yards.
Clemson freshman quarterback Tait Reynolds replaced an injured Christopher Vizzina in the first quarter and played the rest of the game, throwing for 178 yards on 16-of-27 passing. Wide receiver T.J. Moore paced the offense with 103 receiving yards and a touchdown on seven receptions, while defensive end Will Heldt recorded three tackles for loss with two sacks and cornerback Ashton Hampton posted three breakups and two tackles.
Clemson returns to Memorial Stadium this Saturday for its ACC opener against North Carolina (noon, ESPN).
