A former Clemson star found the end zone for the first time in his NFL career on Sunday, capping off a stellar NFL regular season debut.

In Week 1 of the season, Washington Commanders rookie wide receiver Antonio Williams was highly impressive throughout and scored his first career NFL touchdown on a 1-yard reception from Jayden Daniels against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Williams’ impressive TD reception, where he went down to corral the ball before it touched the grass, came with 1:01 left in the fourth quarter of Washington’s 24-22 loss at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. It brought Washington within two points, but the team’s two-point pass conversion failed.

Williams was targeted four times in his NFL debut and hauled in all four passes for 64 yards and his TD, averaging 16.0 yards per catch.

According to Ross Taylor, Clemson Associate Athletic Director for Football Communications & Strategic Initiatives, Williams joined Banks McFadden, Chansi Stuckey, Martavis Bryant and Wayne Gallman among Clemson players to catch a TD in their NFL debuts all-time. Williams also finished two receiving yards shy of DeAndre Hopkins’ mark for the most by a Clemson product in an NFL debut.

He started his career with a 16-yard catch that set Washington up at the 1-yard line in the second quarter, leading to a touchdown, and his longest catch of the day was a 33-yarder early in the fourth quarter that helped set up another Commanders touchdown.

Williams’ four catches tied for the most of any player in the contest, and he led his team in receiving yards.

Williams was selected by the Commanders in the third round of April’s NFL Draft with the No. 71 overall pick, and he opened eyes throughout training camp and the preseason.

Williams was a two-time All-ACC selection who recorded 2,336 yards and 21 touchdowns on 208 career receptions over 43 games (38 starts) during his Clemson career from 2022-25. He exited Clemson ranked fourth in school history in career receptions and tied with Mike Williams for the fourth-most career touchdown receptions in school history.

The Commanders return to action next Sunday on the road against the Dallas Cowboys.
