After being let go by one NFL team, a former Clemson running back has landed with another.

The New York Giants announced they have signed running back Phil Mafah to their practice squad.

Mafah was waived by the Dallas Cowboys on Aug. 30 before the deadline for NFL roster cuts. He was drafted by Dallas in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft (No. 239 overall pick) after his four-year career at Clemson from 2021-24.

Mafah was placed on injured reserve in August 2025 due to a shoulder injury. After being activated from IR, Mafah made his NFL debut in the final week of the 2025 NFL regular season and scored his first career NFL touchdown on a 1-yard rush in the fourth quarter of the Cowboys’ 34-17 loss to the Giants. Mafah finished that game with five carries for 18 yards and his score, while also catching two passes for 11 yards.

Mafah finished the 2026 NFL preseason with 13 carries for 61 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.

A punishing workhorse running back, Mafah earned third-team All-ACC honors as a graduate senior in 2024, when he rushed 216 times for 1,115 yards with eight touchdowns and caught 21 passes for 103 yards over 14 games, all starts.

A former four-star prospect from Grayson High School (Loganville, Ga.), Mafah finished his Clemson career with 561 carries for 2,887 yards and 28 touchdowns, as well as 58 receptions for 309 yards over 50 games (21 starts).

He finished his career ranked ninth in Clemson history in career rushing yards and tied for 10th in career rushing touchdowns.
