Ty McCurry has quickly become one of the more sought-after offensive linemen in the 2028 class.
The three-star talent (Southlake Carroll, TX) currently has upwards of 30 offers, with some of the biggest programs in the country in pursuit.
McCurry made his first visit to Clemson back in the summer when he worked out at Dabo Swinney’s high school camp, and Matt Luke and the Tigers have been recruiting him hard since.
“You can definitely tell they do it differently at Clemson,” McCurry told The Clemson Insider. “They really are intentional about getting to know you and your family. And the coaching from coach Luke and coach (Carson) Cramer during the drills, and even some of the players who help out and getting to know them a bit, it was really a great experience. I loved my time there for sure.”
While in town for camp, McCurry was able to spend a lot of time with Luke.
“He is a pretty like-minded guy,” McCurry added. “He is a great guy to be around and talk to. I love his coaching style. It is kind of that old-school coaching style which I kind of gravitate towards. After getting to sit down with him and have lunch and dinner with him and my family, and tour the campus with him, it was really an awesome experience. Can definitely tell he’d be a great fit for me.”
The 6-foot-6, 295-pounder has yet to set his next visit to Clemson. With the Tigers having yet to offer, that is the next step. Once he has one, he says he will be back for a visit. The staff just wants to see some varsity film before pulling the trigger.
“I am still trying to earn the offer from Clemson, but once that happens, I am definitely going to start locking in with them more,” McCurry said. “I just need to have several games under my belt. As far as a varsity player, last year I was ruled ineligible. They said I did really well at camp, but they still just want to see several games from varsity due to their policy on offering kids.”
McCurry is heading to Ole Miss this weekend for Lane Kiffin’s return to Oxford. He was in LSU last weekend and Texas A&M for the Aggies’ season opener. A visit to South Carolina also appears to be on the horizon. Georgia, Florida, Texas, Texas Tech and Southern Cal make up just a handful of his other offers.
Now, he’s looking to add one from Clemson, something McCurry readily admits would hit a little different.
“It would mean a lot just given the fact that they only offered like 70-something kids in the last class that came through,” he said. “That is the lowest amount of any college team. So, being able to be picked as one of those kids for my class, that would be amazing. Obviously, what plays a huge role is knowing you are a great person before a football player because they have a really tight standard there. They try and keep that culture as much as possible to what coach Swinney has built. That is a really good thing. I think it is great that they are trying to uphold that.”
