Clemson could potentially get a key defensive tackle back in the fold, in time for next Saturday’s game.

Devarrick Woods, who joined the Tigers this past summer after being granted a fifth year of eligibility by the NCAA, was out for Friday night’s 24-10 win at Cal.

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney hopes the Tigers (3-1, 2-0 ACC) will get Woods back for the game vs. Miami next Saturday at Clemson’s Memorial Stadium.

“Obviously Devarrick was out. He wasn’t quite able to go,” Swinney said following the Cal game.

“We’ll get, hopefully, Devarrick back this week,” Swinney added. “Hopefully. We’ll see.”

Prior to missing the Cal game due to injury, Woods made his first start with the Tigers in the comeback win over North Carolina on Sept. 19, recording one tackle.

Woods made his Clemson debut at LSU on Sept. 5 and then posted three tackles (0.5 for loss) vs. Georgia Southern a week later.

The 6-foot-3, 285-pounder spent two seasons at Hinds (Miss.) Community College from 2023-24 before making the jump to the FBS in 2025, compiling 16 tackles (two for loss) and a sack over 11 games at Texas State.

Getting Woods back would be a welcome reinforcement for the Tigers, who were already extremely thin on the interior of the defensive line before Woods was injured and had to miss Friday’s game. The lack of depth at the position forced third-year end Darien Mayo to log snaps at defensive tackle against Cal.
