Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney provided the latest update on a veteran signal-caller continuing to recover from injury.
Swinney gave the latest on the status of senior quarterback Christopher Vizzina, who suffered a left elbow injury back in Week 2 vs. Georgia Southern.
On Wednesday evening, Swinney said Vizzina is getting “better and better.” He would be available if needed off the bench, though Vizzina is still not 100% healthy yet.
“He’s better and better,” Swinney said. “It was just a small fracture in there, but he’s gotten better and better. His range of motion is getting better. It’s a daily thing. He’s practicing. He can throw, but he’s still not 100 percent on his left arm. If he plays, he plays with a brace on it to protect it. But it’s really more just the range of motion for him, kind of getting that back fully. But he’s gotten a little better each day.”
True freshman Tait Reynolds took over as Clemson’s starting quarterback ahead of the Week 3 matchup vs. North Carolina after Vizzina started each of the Tigers’ first two games.
In his two games this season, Vizzina has completed 14-of-23 passes (60.9%) for 102 yards with one touchdown pass and two interceptions.
The Tigers return to the field Saturday when they host No. 4 Miami at Memorial Stadium (7:30 p.m., ABC).
