After some struggles on the right side of the offensive line in the blowout loss to No. 4 Miami, Clemson has a new starter on the offensive line.
Position coach Matt Luke revealed on Tuesday that sophomore Easton Ware will start at right guard. Sophomore Ronan O’Connell has started the first five games there. However, O’Connell logged just nine snaps in the loss to the Hurricanes before he was replaced by true freshman Grant Wise. Ware would ultimately take over there.
“Finishing the game with Easton Ware in there gave us a little more athleticism right there at right guard,” Luke said. “I think moving forward that is where it will start.”
Ware missed all of his debut season with a shoulder injury. He started at right tackle in the season opener at LSU in place of an injured Collin Sadler. He also saw action in the wins over North Carolina and Cal.
“Moving Easton in there, I think that gives you your five best athletes on the field,” Luke added.
In the 41-13 loss to Miami, the Tigers allowed six sacks and nine tackles for loss. According to PFF, freshman quarterback Tait Reynolds was pressured on 33 of his 44 dropback attempts.
Coming out of high school, the 6-foot-5, 310-pound Ware was a four-star prospect and a consensus Top 10 talent in the state of Virginia.
