A former Clemson standout defensive end is back with this NFL team.
KJ Henry is signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers’ practice squad, according to NFL insider Mike Garafolo.
“The Steelers are signing DE KJ Henry to the practice squad after his workout [Monday],” Garafolo wrote on X. “Henry was impressing with the 49ers in camp before an injury cut his summer short.”
Henry was waived by the 49ers with an injury designation on Aug. 12 after signing with San Francisco on July 29.
Now, Henry is back for his third stint with the Steelers. In October 2025, Henry signed with Pittsburgh’s practice squad before being released a month later. This past January, Henry signed a reserve/future contract with the Steelers prior to being released in June.
Henry, 27, was originally drafted in the fifth round (137th overall pick) of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders.
The 6-foot-4, 255-pounder has played in 15 career NFL games, with three starts, during his time with multiple teams including the Commanders (2023), Cincinnati Bengals (2024), Dallas Cowboys (2024) and Cleveland Browns (2025).
Henry has 22 career tackles, five tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. His most extensive action came when he played 10 games with the Commanders as a rookie in 2023, logging 19 tackles, four tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
Henry was signed to the Eagles’ practice squad in November 2024 and earned a Super Bowl championship ring with the Eagles’ victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.
Henry was a true freshman on Clemson’s 2018 national championship team. He played five seasons with the Tigers from 2018-22, collecting 147 career tackles (28 for loss), 13.5 sacks, 11 pass breakups, four fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles over 58 career games (24 starts).
Henry earned All-ACC and All-American honors in 2022, and at the time of his departure for the NFL, his 58 career games were the most ever by a Clemson defensive end.
