A former Clemson star found the end zone on Sunday in Week 5 of the NFL season, then unfortunately suffered an injury that ended his day early.
During the Philadelphia Eagles’ game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, Eagles running back and former Tiger standout Will Shipley scored his first career regular-season touchdown but was subsequently ruled out with an injury.
Shipley drew the start for the game due to the injury situation in the Eagles’ backfield, with starter Saquon Barkley sidelined by a hamstring injury and backup Tank Bigsby on injured reserve.
Shipley took advantage of his expanded opportunity by plunging into the end zone for a 2-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to get Philadelphia on the board.
However, later in the second quarter, Shipley sustained a foot injury. He was initially evaluated in the medical tent on the sideline before heading into the locker room.
Though he was originally designated as questionable to return, the Eagles officially downgraded him to out for the rest of the contest. He finished the day with five carries for 6 yards and his touchdown, along with a 7-yard reception.
Shipley is now in his third NFL season after being selected by the Eagles in the fourth round (No. 127 overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft. Prior to Sunday’s game, in Philadelphia’s first four contests this season, Shipley had rushed for 51 yards on 15 carries while catching four passes for 24 yards.
Shipley’s 2024 rookie NFL campaign culminated with him earning a Super Bowl championship ring when the Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, 40-22, in Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.
While he scored his first career NFL regular-season touchdown on Sunday in Week 5 of the 2026 NFL season, Shipley scored his first overall career touchdown on a 2-yard run in the NFC Championship Game against the Washington Commanders on January 26, 2025, while also tallying 165 all-purpose yards, two tackles and a forced fumble.
Shipley enjoyed a superlative three-year career both athletically and academically at Clemson from 2021-23.
In addition to exiting Clemson in the top 10 in school history in total touchdowns (33), rushing touchdowns (31), 100-yard rushing games (10), all-purpose yards (4,253) and kickoff return yards (904), he is believed to be the first FBS player on record to produce 4,000 career all-purpose yards and earn a degree with a perfect 4.0 GPA in only a three-year span.
