Former Clemson Standout Ejected after NFL Scuffle

A former Clemson standout didn’t last long at all before being kicked out of a game on Sunday in Week 5 of the NFL season.

Philadelphia Eagles linebacker and former Tiger star Jeremiah Trotter Jr. got into a physical altercation with Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Bryan Thomas Jr. on the opening kickoff of Sunday’s game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

Both players were ejected within the game’s first 13 seconds.

Jacksonville’s Josh Cameron returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, which was nullified due to offsetting penalties (an illegal formation on Philadelphia and a holding call on Jacksonville’s Branson Combs).

During and after the play, Trotter and Thomas were involved in a scuffle and wrestling match at midfield that required them to be pulled apart. Both players received penalties and were disqualified from the game.

The ejection comes with some family history for Trotter Jr., as his father, former Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter, was famously ejected before a Monday Night Football game against the Atlanta Falcons in 2005.

The younger Trotter spent three years at Clemson from 2021-23 and was named as an All-American in both 2022 and 2023, becoming Clemson’s first multi-time All-American at linebacker since Keith Adams in 1999 and 2000.

Trotter Jr. capped his rookie 2024 season with a Super Bowl championship after the Eagles’ 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

He was selected by the Eagles in the fifth round (No. 155 overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft, joining the organization where his father spent eight of his 11 NFL seasons and earned four Pro Bowl selections as well as a spot in the organization’s Hall of Fame.

Entering Sunday’s game, Trotter Jr. had tallied 19 tackles over four games this season and was credited with 76 tackles over 38 career NFL regular-season games from 2024-26, including a career-high 15 tackles in Philadelphia’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams last Sunday in Week 4.
