Swinney Has High Praise for Clemson Lineman

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney had high praise Tuesday for the Tigers’ starting left tackle.

Swinney spoke glowingly about Brayden Jacobs, the sophomore’s steady performance this season and how much his play on the field means to him.

Coming off Clemson’s open date last weekend, Swinney was asked about Jacobs’ development and the fact he has allowed zero pressures in back-to-back weeks.

Swinney says the 6-foot-7, 345-pounder is continuously improving and displays an excellent work ethic.

“He’s getting better. He’s been probably our most steady guy. That’s what we expect of him,” Swinney said. “He cares, and he’s just going to keep getting better. He’s just going to keep improving. Because again, he’s worked really hard on his body, number one. He’s a smart kid. But mostly, he cares greatly about his performance. So, he’s just going to continue to create that consistency in his performance.”

Jacobs has started all five games this season, amassing 352 total snaps. He has already nearly matched his total snap count from his true freshman campaign in 2025, when he logged 368 offensive snaps over 10 games, including four starts.

Jacobs enrolled at Clemson in January 2025 as a highly regarded prospect. The Milton (Ga.) High School product was rated as a four-star prospect by multiple recruiting services and ranked as high as the No. 55 overall prospect in the country for the 2025 recruiting class, per 247Sports.

Brayden was enjoying an impressive debut season last year before he suffered a season-ending foot injury after the Tigers’ win at Louisville in November. He is the son of punishing former NFL running back Brandon Jacobs, a two-time Super Bowl champion and the New York Giants’ all-time leader in career rushing touchdowns.

Swinney is confident that Brayden will continue improving and not only be a great player for the Tigers — but also follow in the footsteps of his father and be a great player in the NFL when he moves on to the next level.

“He’s not going to be perfect. This is football. Everybody’s got good players. But I think when it’s all said and done, he’s going to be a great player here at Clemson,” Swinney said. “He’s going to be a great player at the next level, as he continues to just create the consistency day-in, day-out, week-in, week-out.

“But man, I love everything about Brayden. He has been a bright spot for us.”

Jacobs and the Tigers are getting set to face Charleston Southern on Saturday at Memorial Stadium (noon, ACC Network).
