4-Star DE Says Clemson ‘Whole Lot Different’

A highly-touted recruiting target made his return to Clemson recently.

Four-star DE Tyson Williams (Shelby, NC) was on hand for the Miami game on October 3, marking his first time on campus since visiting for a game in September of last year.

“It is a beautiful campus,” Williams told The Clemson Insider. “The way they greeted me was a lot different. Everything is a whole lot different. I thought it was a lot more personal, and I really enjoyed it.”

Williams got some quality time with members of the coaching staff, including a few minutes with head coach Dabo Swinney.

“I got to sit with coach (Daquan) Bowers, and I got to sit with coach (Chris) Rumph for a little bit,” Williams added. “They said they watched a lot of my film from the past two years and that they really like me.

“I talk to coach Rumph every day or every other day. They are probably one of the places I hear from the most. I get the graphics every day. They hit me up before every game.”

Through seven games, Williams has been credited with 32 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and a pass defended.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pounder has more than 30 offers total. He’s also visited South Carolina, and he will be at Tennessee this weekend. Williams says he’s hearing a lot from the Gamecocks, who he says are probably recruiting him the hardest right now, along with SMU and Kentucky. Alabama just offered on Wednesday.

The Tigers have yet to offer. In fact, Clemson has only offered three defensive ends in the 2028 class. But it’s an offer Williams certainly wants.

“I like the location, I like their culture, and I really enjoy the fan base,” he added. “I really like a lot of their game-day traditions and things like that. I got to stand on the hill. That was pretty cool. It is just a really good place.”

And if Clemson does end up pulling the trigger, the Tigers would vault up towards the top of his list.

“I like what they do,” Williams said. “They would definitely be in my top five.”
