CLEMSON — Clemson led Charleston Southern, 34-0, at halftime of Saturday’s Military Appreciation Day game against Charleston Southern at Memorial Stadium.
After an early 41-yard field goal by Clemson kicker Nolan Hauser, the Tigers rushed for touchdowns on three consecutive drives, with running back Chris Johnson Jr. (twice) and fellow running back Gideon Davidson finding the end zone.
Clemson extended its lead to 31-0 on a scoop-and-score touchdown by safety Kylon Griffin on a Charleston Southern kickoff return, and then capped the half with an impressive, career-long 59-yard field goal by Hauser.
Clemson’s 31 points in the first half mark a season-high for the Tigers in any whole game this season.
Clemson (3-2) entered the Charleston Southern game as a 42.5-point favorite. The Tigers are well on their way to improving their all-time record to 41-0 against FCS opponents since the Division I split in 1978.
