CLEMSON – With a two-yard run, Chris Johnson Jr. got his second touchdown of the afternoon and the Tigers extended their lead over Charleston Southern 24-0.
Johnson’s run was also the second of his Clemson career and was the third rushing touchdown for the Tigers in the first half. It capped off a nine-play, 70-yard drive.
To start the drive, the Tigers got the ball on their own 30-yard line and opened with an eight-yard pass to Bryant Wesco Jr. After a quick first down, quarterback Tait Reynolds found tight end Christian Bentancur for a 32-yard pass down to the Buccaneers’ eight-yard line, threatening immediately.
After having only four yards needed for a score, a penalty pushed the Tigers back, but a pass interference penalty put them right back in a favorable position for Johnson to punch it in.
On first down, he pushed through for the touchdown.
Directly after the play, Robert Gunn III kicked off for the Tigers and Clemson’s special teams unit forced a fumble to regain possession. Safety Kylon Griffin scooped up the loose ball and returned it 13-yards for another Tiger touchdown, bringing the score 31-0.
It marked the first time Clemson has scored more than 30 points in a game this season.
