Clemson will be without this wide receiver on Saturday when the Tigers host Virginia Tech at Memorial Stadium.
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said during his media availability Wednesday evening that freshman wide receiver Gordon Sellars III will miss the Virginia Tech game due to a concussion.
“He had his best day yesterday, but he’s going to be out this weekend,” Swinney said. “Got a concussion, so he’ll be out, unfortunately. But he had a great day. Had a couple good catches.”
Sellars is now in concussion protocol, according to Swinney.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder has logged three catches for 8 yards this season through the first six games of his Clemson career.
A former top-200 national prospect from a prep football power in North Carolina (Providence Day School), Sellars has emerged as the Tigers’ No. 4 wide receiver this season behind the starting trio of Bryant Wesco Jr., Tyler Brown and T.J. Moore.
“He’s really kind of been that next guy, and that’s really been since the spring,” Swinney said. “He just kind of emerged, and then he pulled his hamstring in camp and has kind of been limited a good bit, but has been able to play some and kind of been working his way back.
“Just kind of got through the hamstring thing, and again, made two really, really good plays yesterday but just kind of came down. So, he’s in the protocol, so he’ll be out this weekend.”
Saturday’s game is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff and will be televised on ESPN.
