CLEMSON — Virginia Tech quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer’s 5-yard touchdown pass to tight end Luke Reynolds with 1:44 remaining lifted the Hokies to a 20-16 victory over Clemson on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.
It marks Virginia Tech’s first win over Clemson since 2007, snapping a seven-game losing skid against the Tigers and handing Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney his first career loss to the Hokies.
The loss dropped Clemson to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the ACC, dealing a huge blow to the Tigers’ hopes of making it to the ACC Championship Game. Meanwhile, under first-year Virginia Tech head coach James Franklin, the Hokies improved to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
Clemson will spend the next two weeks on the road for ACC tests at Florida State this Saturday and at Syracuse on Nov. 7 before returning to Memorial Stadium on Nov. 14 against Georgia Tech.
