Dabo: ‘Maybe I Should Retire and Be a Full-Time Fantasy Guy’

During his Tuesday press conference, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney lightheartedly bragged that he is currently in first place in his family fantasy football league.

Addressing the media ahead of Saturday’s game at Florida State, Swinney briefly went off topic to talk about the success he’s enjoying during his first year being allowed into the league.

“I am doing great in my fantasy team,” Swinney said. “In my fantasy life, I’m really in first place. I’m winning and kicking some butt in that.”

“Maybe I should retire and be a full-time fantasy guy,” Swinney jokingly added.

Swinney attributes his league-leading status in part to a lucky draft-day choice of a player he had initially never even heard of — Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Tre Tucker.

It’s safe to say Swinney is now a fan of that player who’s been scoring a lot of points for his fantasy squad.

“I made a great draft pickup,” Swinney said. “I got some guy named Tucker from the Raiders. He is killing it. He’s making hay every week. I didn’t know who he was.”

Swinney noted that this is the first year he has been allowed to participate in the family league.

Though the real-life Clemson football team is sitting at 4-3 (2-2 ACC) following a tough loss to Virginia Tech last Saturday, which dealt a huge blow to the Tigers’ hopes of making it to the ACC Championship Game, it seems that Swinney at least has one team that could make a run at a championship.

“It’s like my big Swinney family [league], and they wouldn’t let me in it,” Swinney said. “It’s the first year they’ve let me be in it, you know, and I’m like, well, why can’t I be in it? Well, ‘You don’t really know what you’re doing.’ They finally let me in it.

“Yeah, I’m in first place in the league. So, my fantasy life’s pretty good.”
