CLEMSON — After suffering a heartbreaking loss to Virginia Tech last week at Memorial Stadium, Clemson hits the road for the first time in a month.
The Tigers (4-3, 2-2 ACC) travel to Florida State (3-4, 1-3 ACC) to face a Seminoles team that has one of the more explosive offenses in the ACC.
Thanks to quarterback Ashton Daniels, FSU has 42 plays of 20-plus yards, including 19 over 30 yards. Here are three players Clemson fans should get to know before Saturday’s 7 p.m., game in Tallahassee, Fla.
Quarterback Ashton Daniels
Daniels has already set the school’s single-season rushing touchdown record for a quarterback, broken FSU’s single-game rushing TD record and accounted for nine touchdowns and 56 points in road games at No. 10 Alabama and No. 3 Miami. For the season, Daniels is 106-for-181 with 12 touchdown passes and has added 354 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns. Daniels’ 11 rushing touchdowns through seven games match the most for a Seminole since 1995 (Antone Smith, 2008; Dalvin Cook, 2015). His 11 rushing touchdowns match his career totals entering the season (11 in 37 games at Stanford and Auburn) and his 12 passing TDs are also a single-season high. Daniels ranks fifth nationally with 23 touchdowns accounted for. He is one of two quarterbacks with 11 passing and rushing touchdowns. He leads the ACC and ranks fourth nationally this season with his average of 15.26 yards per completion. Daniels has had multiple touchdowns in every game and has a rushing and passing touchdown in five games, the nation’s second-highest total.
Wide Receiver Duce Robinson
Robinson caught six passes for 135 yards and one touchdown at No. 10 Alabama and added five receptions for 113 yards and two touchdowns at No. 3 Miami. For the year, Robinson leads FSU with 22 catches, 407 yards and 4 TDs. Robinson’s seven career 100-yard receiving games at FSU are tied for 9th in program history. He has 2,235 career receiving yards, including 1,488 at Florida State. The senior’s six career 120-yard receiving games in the regular season are tied for second-most among active players in college football, behind only Jeremiah Smith of Ohio State. Robinson’s 2 TDs at Miami came late in the game – his 75-yard touchdown was the first play after Miami had taken a lead late in the fourth quarter and is FSU’s longest pass of the season. His 20-yard touchdown in the first overtime gave Florida State the lead.
Running Back Quintrevion Wisner
FSU’s top two running backs, sophomore Ousmane Kromah and senior Samuel Singleton Jr., will both miss extended time due to injuries. That means it is time for Wisner to step up for the Seminoles. He takes over to lead a rushing attack that is averaging 180 yards per game on the ground. He had 119 total yards at No. 3 Miami, rushing nine times for a team-high 63 yards and catching four passes for 56 yards, including a 28-yard TD. Wisner’s TD catch was his first as a Seminole and the third receiving score of his career. In FSU’s win over Virginia, the Texas transfer had 106 total yards, averaging 5.1 yards on nine carries for 46 yards and adding a career-high 60 receiving yards, highlighted by a 48-yard catch that set up an FSU TD.
