CLEMSON — It is no secret – Clemson’s offense is not very good.
The good news for the Tigers, Florida State’s defense is just as bad.
Something has to give, right?
The Tigers (4-3, 2-2 ACC) average 333.1 yards and 21.4 points per game. The Seminoles (3-4, 1-3 ACC) are allowing 434.9 yards and 27.9 points. With the strengths of both teams coming on the opposite sides of the football, this is where the game will ultimately be decided.
Clemson quarterback Tait Reynolds talked about the matchup and what the Tigers can do to try and take advantage of the Seminoles defense.
Question: Tate, when you take a look at that third quarter, the three scoring drives you were able to have, what can the offense take from that specifically to translate to more consistent success overall?
Answer: “I mean, we kind of just look at the whole game and we had a good third quarter, but it can always be better. The good plays, bad plays, there’s always just something that’s kind of we’re just missing a piece here and there every play and we’ll just keep working to put it together.”
Question: Talk about the missing pieces here or there. What specifically do you mean by that?
Answer: “I just mean we kind of, like Coach (Dabo) Swinny said, we kind of just take turns on everybody not doing their job and, I think, when we put that together, it can be really good.
Question: So, when Coach Swinney talked about growing pains and how he feels like the offense has just had some growing pains throughout the season, whether it’s young players or what you were talking about, how have you seen that?
Answer: “I think there’s been a lot of good things we’ve done and I think there’s been some things that we need to clean up and work on. There’s always going to be growing pains in every season, every year, so you just continue to build on it and keep getting better.”
Question: Do you feel like something clicked that second half for you, especially more designed runs, just kind of letting your athleticism take over there?
Answer: “I mean we did. We had a better second half, but we need to get off to a better start, especially in such a pretty hostile environment this weekend.”
Question: You are going down to Florida State. What are you excited about for that challenge and opportunity?
Answer: “I’ve said it before, I’m never going to back down from a challenge. I think it’s going to be really cool and unique.”
