Clemson Lineman Suffers Scary Injury

There was a scary moment in the second quarter of Saturday night’s game between Clemson and Florida State at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla.

Clemson starting left guard Elyjah Thurmon had to be stretchered off the field after suffering a scary injury.

The injury happened on a Clemson running play early in the second quarter. There was a head-to-head collision between Thurmon and a Florida State linebacker. The ACC Network broadcast opted not to show the replay.

Thurmon was hit on the left side of his head by the FSU defender.

Both teams were out on the field, with Clemson teammates and coaches watching and praying as Thurmon was tended to during an extended delay in the game. The whole Clemson bench came onto the field, and number of players from both sides were down on a knee during the situation.

As Thurmon was taken away on a cart, he gave a thumbs-up.

According to a Clemson spokesman, Thurmon is being taken to the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital for further evaluation. His mom is with him.

At halftime, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney was asked by ACC Network sideline reporter Madison Fitzpatrick if there was any update on Thurmon that he could provide.

“I can’t, other than he was responsive and moving,” Swinney said. “But nothing at this time.”

We will provide a further update on Thurmon’s injury when it becomes available. Our thoughts and prayers are with Thurmon.

The game was tied at 10 at the time of his injury.
