Following Saturday night’s 36-24 victory at Florida State, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney provided an update on starting left guard Elyjah Thurmon.
Thurmon had to be stretchered off the field after suffering a scary injury. The injury happened on a Clemson running play early in the second quarter, when there was a head-to-head collision between Thurmon and a Florida State linebacker and Thurmon was hit on the left side of his head by the FSU defender.
There was an extended delay in the game as Thurmon was tended to. When he was taken away on a cart, he gave a thumbs-up. According to a Clemson spokesman at the time of his injury, Thurmon was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital for further evaluation, accompanied by his mother.
After the game, Swinney gave an update on Thurmon and his status.
Swinney said “the signs are positive” regarding Thurmon’s injury. He thinks they’re going to keep Thurmon in the hospital overnight, but that he will hopefully be released tomorrow.
It was mainly concerns about a concussion and head/neck area, according to Swinney.
“They’re probably going to keep him overnight for observation, but I think the signs are all positive right now,” Swinney said. “I think it’s more just maybe a concussion-type thing and just that whole neck area. But he had good strength, good movement and all that. So, we’re hopeful that they’ll let him go tomorrow and he’ll be able to get home.”
Thurmon, a junior, has started all seven games he’s played in this year.
The 6-foot-4, 325-pounder was limited by injury to 129 offensive snaps over three games (one start) in 2025.
A Mississippi native who finished his prep career in Georgia before signing with the Tigers in 2024, Thurmon played 146 snaps from scrimmage over eight games (one start) in his debut 2024 campaign.
