TALLAHASSEE, Fla. —While Clemson got back in the win column on Saturday night with a 36-24 victory on the road at Florida State, it did come with a cost.
The Tigers lost two offensive linemen to injury. Left guard Elyjah Thurmon went down with a scary injury in the first half and was taken to a local hospital, where he was expected to stay overnight for observation. Gavin Blanchard replaced him.
Starting center Harris Sewell also left the game with an injury, with freshman Grant Wise taking over once he exited the game in the second half. However, Sewell did return for the final play.
“I think Harris came back and did the victory formation snap at the end,” head coach Dabo Swinney said.
After the game, Sewell was seen in a walking boot.
Sewell has started every game at center this season for Clemson. The 6-foot-4, 310-pounder came into the season having appeared in 35 games, with 17 of those being starts. The former four-star talent has been one of the most consistent players up front this season for the Tigers.
Swinney added that there is no word yet on Sewell’s availability for next Saturday’s game at Syracuse.
