Clemson will be without its starting center for multiple games.
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said during his radio show Monday night that starting center Harris Sewell is “going to be out for a few weeks” after suffering an injury in last Saturday’s 36-24 win at Florida State.
Sewell left the game with an injury, with freshman Grant Wise taking over once he exited the game in the second half. Sewell did return for the final play, coming back to do the victory formation snap at the end. However, after the game, Sewell was seen in a walking boot.
Swinney said on his radio show that Sewell will have to have a minor surgery. The Tigers hope he can return for the Duke game on Nov. 20 or the South Carolina game on Nov. 28.
“Harris Sewell’s going to be out. He’s probably going to be out for a few weeks,” Swinney said. “He’s going to have to have a little surgery and a procedure. So, they do expect to get him back, hopefully either Duke or South Carolina. But he’s going to be out for sure a couple weeks.”
Sewell has started every game at center this season for Clemson. The 6-foot-4, 310-pounder came into the season having appeared in 35 games, with 17 of those being starts. The former four-star talent has been one of the most consistent players up front this season for the Tigers.
Saturday’s road game at Syracuse is set for a 12 p.m. kickoff. The game will be televised on ESPN2. With Sewell out, Swinney said Wise will be the starting center vs. Syracuse.
