Clemson is already on the search for a quarterback target in the 2029 recruiting class.
The Tigers locked up their 2027 quarterback, four-star Kharim Hugley, in the summer of 2025. The staff also got one of its top 2028 targets, Trace Hawkins, locked up pretty quickly, with the four-star committing in late July.
While 2029 offers likely won’t start going out until next summer, that doesn’t mean the work on identifying the next top targets isn’t already taking place.
One name worth watching is four-star Khayel Sam Fong-Talia. The 6-foot, 230-pound left-handed signal caller began his high school career at in-state Dillon before transferring to South Forsyth in Georgia ahead of his sophomore campaign. Former Pittsburgh Steelers standout Kordell Stewart is on the staff there.
In nine games this season, Sam Fong-Talia has thrown for 1,804 yards with 18 touchdowns and five interceptions. He’s also rushed for 921 yards, averaging more than seven yards per carry, with nine more touchdowns. He has rushed for more than 100 yards five times this season.
Sam-Fong Talia has already visited Clemson multiple times, with the most recent coming for the Miami game on October 3. Last week, assistant coach Tajh Boyd was at his high school.
Sam-Fong Talia is already one of the more highly sought-after quarterbacks in the class, holding more than 20 offers. He’s also visited Georgia, Auburn and Georgia Tech. He is expected to be at Notre Dame this weekend for the Fighting Irish’s high-profile game against Miami.
The southpaw quarterback is ranked among the Top 85 players overall and widely considered one of the top players at his position. 247 ranks him third among all quarterbacks in the class.
