Swinney Gives Injury Update on Starting WR

Clemson was without a starting wide receiver on Saturday, when the Tigers defeated Syracuse 18-13 at the JMA Wireless Dome.

Starting slot wideout Tyler Brown was ruled out Friday on the injury report ahead of Saturday’s game.

During his postgame press conference Saturday, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney gave an update on Brown’s injury status.

“He’ll be OK,” Swinney said.

Brown hurt his ankle in practice this past week.

“On Tuesday, Tyler Brown, routes on air — he just kind of goes down to catch a little ball, and his ankle gets rolled up underneath him,” Swinney said. “Rolls his ankle. He’s out.”

Swinney added that he is optimistic about the chances of Brown being available for next week’s game vs. Georgia Tech.

“His [injury] wasn’t anything like a surgery or anything like that, but he just couldn’t go [at Syracuse],” Swinney said. “Hopefully he’ll be back this week.”

Next Saturday’s game vs. Georgia Tech at Clemson’s Memorial Stadium is set to kick off at 12:30 p.m. and will be televised on The CW.

Brown has been a key cog for Clemson this season. Prior to the game at Syracuse, he was second on the team with 36 catches for 332 yards. He has also rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown.

Hailing from Greenville, South Carolina (Greenville High School), Brown burst onto the scene in his debut 2023 season, earning freshman All-American honors after leading the Tigers with 52 receptions for 531 yards and four touchdowns.

In 2024, he suffered an ankle injury requiring tightrope surgery, limiting him to just five catches over four regular-season appearances and triggering a redshirt season. After an up-and-down 2025 season during which he caught 22 passes for 191 yards in 13 games, Brown has worked his way back into form and easily exceeded last year’s production, returning as a key contributor in the receiving corps.
