CLEMSON — The afternoon session of Dabo Swinney’s high school camp on Wednesday was once again highlighted by some strong quarterback play.
-2005 NFL MVP Shaun Alexander was on hand this afternoon. He is still the all-time leading rusher in Seattle Seahawks franchise history.
-2028 four-star Trace Hawkins (Calhoun, GA) had another strong showing this afternoon. I got to see more of his deep ball in the second session, and he throws a nice one. Several times, he dropped deep passes right into the breadbasket of a receiver. There is a lot to like about Hawkins. He did nothing to change my mind about him being a realistic option to pick up one of the Tigers’ opening offers.
-2028 three-star Trey Wright (Frisco Lone Star, TX) also threw again this afternoon. He throws a nice deep ball, too, and he can make all of the throws. He was extremely accurate this afternoon. Wright is a teammate of new CB commit Bryant Robinson. Wright might very well be a realistic option for an opening offer, too. He looked really sharp.
-2027 in-state QB Dwayne LouAllen (Central) looked really sharp throwing the ball this afternoon.
-2028 four-star wideout Zyon Robinson (McEachern, GA) was still on hand this afternoon, but not working out. He arrived back in the indoor facility well after the afternoon session started. Looked like he’d just gotten back from getting the tour and he was waiting to meet with members of the staff before the media was ushered out.
-2028 four-star OL Reece Wilmes was back for the afternoon session. He has close to a dozen offers already, and after speaking with one contact, it sounds like his stock might be on the verge of exploding. Notre Dame and Ohio State are both starting to show serious interest. Wilmes is the younger brother of Braden Wilmes, who is currently a freshman OL at Clemson.
-2028 three-star OL Jarmel Powell Jr. (Varina, VA) worked out during the afternoon session. South Carolina is the only school to have offered to this point.
-2027 in-state OL Luke Thayer (South Florence) was back at it this afternoon. Onlookers said he had one of his best camp performances to date. Davidson and Charleston Southern have offered one of the state’s best interior linemen.
-During one drill with the DBs, cornerbacks coach Mike Reed made any player that did not come down with a catch do push-ups. At one point, there were about half a dozen guys lined up on the side doing push-ups.
2028 DB Ty Covington (Richmond, NC) worked out this afternoon. Ole Miss, Tennessee, ECU and Wake Forest are some of his reported offers.
-2028 DB Christian Payne (Harvest, AL) was on hand this afternoon. He moves really well and gets his hips around quickly. He still plans to camp at Alabama, Auburn and Vanderbilt. He was at Colorado earlier this week.
-Hevin Brown-Shuler was working both sessions of the camp today. Great to see him out there after his recent cancer diagnosis.
-One final note. Erik Bakich and the Clemson baseball staff hosted Toledo transfer Troy Sudbrook on Wednesday. Bakich brought Sudbrook over to the football facility to get a face-to-face meeting with Swinney.
