A former Clemson recruiting target revealed his collegiate decision on Saturday.
Four-star linebacker Roman Igwebuike (Mount Carmel, IL) announced a commitment to Notre Dame, with Indiana, Missouri and Clemson being the other listed finalists. Igwebuike ranks No. 134 overall and No. 10 among all linebackers in the class in the Rivals Industry Ratings. He had close to 50 offers in total.
As a junior, he helped guide his team to a state title, recording 111 tackles, nine tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.
When three-star RJ Hudson committed to the Tigers last month, he became the third and final linebacker take for Clemson in this class. Barring something unforeseen, that is. That means Igwebuike was no longer a take.
Having said that, Igwebuike started trending away from the Tigers fairly quickly after attending the official visit weekend, so it’s been known for more than a month that Clemson wasn’t going to be the pick. It’s part of the story behind why they pivoted to Hudson, although not the sole reason.
The other linebacker currently committed is four-star Bryce Kish, who is one of the higher-rated recruits in the class. Kish ranks as high as No. 60 overall and No. 6 among all linebackers in the class.
Clemson did add a major piece to the class on Saturday, landing a commitment from four-star in-state defensive tackle Seth Tillman (South Pointe). He becomes the 25th verbal pledge for Clemson, in a class that currently ranks in the Top 15 nationally.
