Latest On 5-Star Recruiting Target

One of Clemson’s top recruiting targets in the 2028 class has already set several game-day visits for the upcoming season, but has yet to get a date ironed out to get back to Death Valley.

Despite having not set a date yet, five-star DE Asher Ghioto (Bolles School, FL) tells The Clemson Insider that he was “1000000000%” planning to be back at Clemson at some point during the season, and that it was just a matter of working out the date.

  • Tennessee at South Carolina (Oct 24)
  • Oklahoma at Tennessee (Oct 31)

One of Clemson’s big dates during the coming season is October 3, when the Tigers host Miami. Expect several of the biggest recruiting targets to be on hand that night. However, Ghioto is already set to be at Texas A&M that day. Clemson is off on October 10, so if Ghioto is going to visit, it looks like it will have to be sometime in November. The two available options that month fall on November 14, when the Tigers host Georgia Tech, and then the rivalry matchup against the Gamecocks two weeks later on November 28. Although there is always the possibility that Ghioto could move some things around on his schedule.

Ghioto picked up his offer on June 1, the first day the Tigers started handing out offers to players in the 2028 class. He was last on campus for the Elite Retreat back in March. At the time, he was considering reclassifying to the 2027 class, and he was the only 2028 prospect invited to the event.

“I don’t think the visit could have gone any better,” Ghioto told TCI after the Elite Retreat. “If you think of a picture-perfect visit in terms of information and how long you are there for and how amazing it was, I feel like that was it. That was the ideal day you are going to go through. It was long, but it was information-packed. That is what you need on these types of visits. Now, I feel like I don’t have to take a bazillion more visits to know if I want to commit there. I don’t feel like I would even need to go back to make a decision.”

Ghioto is considered one of the top players in the class, regardless of position. The 6-foot-5, 240-pounder sits at No. 3 overall in the Rivals Industry Rankings. He is ranked as the top edge rusher in the class and No. 2 in the state of Florida.
