Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney provided the latest injury update on senior quarterback Christopher Vizzina.

During his weekly Tuesday press conference ahead of Saturday’s game vs. North Carolina, Swinney was asked if Vizzina is practicing fully this week.

Vizzina suffered a left arm injury in the first half of last Saturday’s game against Georgia Southern and did not return, with Swinney saying Sunday that Vizzina “took a shot” on his left arm and was “numb” in that arm.

“Yeah, he’s back,” Swinney said Tuesday. “He’s getting a little better each day. He’s just getting his range of motion. He’s going to be fine. But he’ll just have to wear a little protective thing on his left arm. A little sore, but he’ll get better each day. He should be good to go.”

On Sunday, Swinney named true freshman Tait Reynolds as the starting quarterback for the UNC game, confirming Reynolds earned the start based on his performance in the Tigers’ 22-7 win over Georgia Southern and not because Vizzina is banged up.

As of Tuesday, does Swinney feel that Vizzina will be able to play Saturday against North Carolina if he is needed?

“I’m not a doctor… I didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but they told me he is available… I don’t know what was reported but I can only go on what (the doctors) told me,” Swinney said.

Vizzina started the game against Georgia Southern and played the first three series, completing 4 of 7 passes for 19 yards, including a 10-yard touchdown pass to T.J. Moore that gave the Tigers a 7-0 lead with 11:01 to play in the first quarter. However, Vizzina’s final pass of the contest was a poorly thrown deep ball that was intercepted.

Vizzina was replaced by Reynolds after the Tigers’ third series, as Swinney and offensive coordinator Chad Morris planned to put Reynolds in for the fourth series regardless. After taking over for Vizzina, Reynolds threw for 178 yards on 16-of-27 passing and led five drives that ended with field goals.

Clemson will host North Carolina at Memorial Stadium this Saturday in the ACC opener for both teams. Kickoff is set for noon on ESPN.
